More than Survival is the first novella in a post-apocalyptic erotic series…

Lucy was just seven years old when a deadly virus swept the country, killing most of the population. For the past eleven years she’s lived in seclusion with her Uncle Seamus, a prepper who was more than ready for the end of the world. Then Seamus disappears and Lucy finds herself a lone woman facing a dark world of lawlessness.

When Sawyer stumbles upon her cabin in the middle of a blizzard, he not only saves her life, but introduces her to feeling she’s never experienced before. With her uncle’s warnings about the dark desires of men fresh in her mind, Lucy knows she must tread lightly, but there’s something about Sawyer she can’t seem to shake. And the more she’s around him the more her body and mind awaken to the realization that there’s more to life than just survival…

RATING: 4 STARS

Wow..I think I need a shower after this read! Steamy, sexy, fun, but set in a post apocalyptic world? Who would of thought! The formula the author put together worked very well in this book. "More Than Survival" by new author, Camryn Lynn, is set after a virus has spread across the country and wiped out most of the population. Leaving those of the living to fend for themselves and make a new world. Where lawlessness rules and the term "survival of the fittest" has never been truer. Lucy, now eighteen was only seven when the virus killed both of her parents. Leaving her in the care of her Uncle Seamus. He was basically a doomsday prepper and had them secluded for so many years. One day a normal run for supplies turns into weeks of her uncle missing without a word. Now not sure if she can make it on her own, she is thrown into a perilous situation that could only lead to a tragic end. Lucky for her a stranger comes out of nowhere to rescue her. Lucy, never being around men except for her father and uncle, knows that there is more to Sawyer and wants to get to know him. But the question remains: Can she trust him? She soon knows there is a attraction that she just can't fight and honestly doesn't want to. But can she trust him to keep not only her safe, but her heart intact?

I had so much fun reading this novella. Short, simple, sexy and sweet. I loved how the author threw together a post apocalyptic world with a coming of age theme and made the story sexy and fun. Lucy is virgin. No way to sugarcoat this people. When this man, who I would say it about 10 years older than her, comes to her rescue and it kind of plays out like the books she reads in this story, who wouldn't want to give up the v-card and start doing the dirty? I am of fan of Lucy. Smart and a bit on the dorky side when it comes to her discovering what sex and all naughty bits that come along with it was cute! I could so imagine how her eyes were bugging out when she was reading her sex book so she could impress Sawyer. And Sawyer being the sweet and sexy man that he is, was so patience with her. One of those nice guys that just had nothing but tragedy and bad breaks along the way. But once she got her groove, oh boy was he an animal in bed! Damn! Sorry I need a moment and so will you when you read this! I will say there is a sort of semi-cliffhanger that leaves you like, WTF. But the series will be continuing so that's a good thing. I definitely want to see what happens if Lucy has to start going out there into the new world, what will she see? Will she be ok? So many questions, hope to find them out soon. Pleasant surprise of a read. Don't worry no zombies in this one. Just a new and more primitive world than we are use to and can't wait to see more of it in the next installment.

Out of a 5, I'm giving this one 4 stars! Good début from this new author!

And now lets take a moment to get to know the author behind this new book, More Than Survival, Camryn Lynn!
****

1) What made you decide to write this novella series?

I really enjoy reading post-apocalyptic fiction and having a sexy element in the story always makes it more enjoyable. Lately, I’ve read a few that were…not so great. The author either spent too much time on the romance and didn’t bother with the world building, or didn’t bother editing. It’s hard to find really good post-apocalyptic stories. For some reason editors and publishers think there’s no real market for them, so authors who write in this genre are forced to self-publish. I have no issue with self-publishing – I did it! – but the problem is the lack of editing. I’m not even talking about hiring an editor (although that’s nice). Just taking the time to have a friend or writing partner proofread your work is essential! Typos get through and I can deal with that, we all have them, but when there are typos on almost every page it gets tough to read.  It bugged me. A couple stories I read in the past few months had so much potential, but there just wasn’t enough thought put into the details. It made me want to write my own!

2) The fact that the story is set in a post-apocalyptic world are you a fan of stories and movies similar to that?

I am a giant fan! I love zombies – Yes, The Walking Dead – but I enjoy any post-apocalyptic story. Imagining how I would respond in those situations is always fun, and it’s cool as a writer to be able to build a world from scratch. But, as they say, the devil is in the detail. It’s hard finding books in the genre that are totally believable. We all have to suspend reality a little at times, but for a story to work it doesn’t have to possible, just plausible. That’s where you can lose a reader.

3) I'm a huge fan of Zombie films and TV (you are talking to a Walking Dead fan here) and I will admit I do believe there could be a zombie apocalypse in the future (lol), do you think you will be adding that element to the series as it progresses?

This series, no. For Lucy and Sawyer I’m keeping it post-apocalyptic. In the next book you’re going to get to see a lot more of the state of the world, and it’s going to be dark and gritty and disturbing, and Lucy is going to have to fight to survive. Which is what would happen in a world like this.

However…I have written another novella that takes place at the start of a zombie apocalypse. The first draft is done and I’m working out a few details to make sure it flows well, but I should have that out in the next couple months as well. I’ll be sure to let you know about it!

4) Lucy is so innocent, how did you feel about making her character so in the book? Was it daunting? Or fun?

It’s always fun to put myself into the shoes of someone so different from me and try to figure out how they would react. I would think that an eighteen-year-old who has been this secluded her whole really crave physical affection, especially spending her free time reading about it.

5) Sawyer is scrumptious and very swoonworthy! Was there ever a moment you weren't going to keep his character good?

No! I would hate for Lucy to wait so long to give herself to someone who turned against her later on. I’m really into the honorable type of hero you would want to bring home to your parents, so that’s who I wanted Sawyer to be. The gentleman – but still a man with needs. He’s patient and understanding and the kind of person Lucy needed in her life after her uncle disappeared.

6) Who do you picture as Sawyer & Lucy?

For Lucy I was thinking either Deborah Ann Woll who played Jessica on True Blood or Sophie Turner who plays Sansa Stark on Game of Thrones.

For Sawyer I like Drew Roy who plays Hal Mason on Falling Skies…or really I just like him. ;-)

Ok this is the Anything Goes portion of questioning. Here goes!

7) What would be the 5 things in your Doomsday survival kit?

Crap! That’s a tough one, plus the kit would vary depending whether or not zombies were involved. Assuming it’s not…

1.      Extra pair of glasses for sure. I am blind! I actually keep telling my husband I need to get Lasix before the zombie apocalypse happens.

2.      Duct tape, because it can fix almost anything. (Especially my glasses if they get broken.)

3.      First Aid kit, which includes essential medicines for myself and my kids. My husband, luckily, is in perfect health so he doesn’t need anything.

4.      An Atlas. I think it’s important for us since we don’t live anywhere near the rest of our family. We’ve come to rely on technology too much, so getting someplace without our GPS would be difficult.

5.      Food and water and a weapon and extra fuel and extra clothes and flashlights and extra batteries and…

Okay, that’s way more than five. But to be fair, I have several kids and I have to be prepared. I don’t know if I could narrow it down.

8) Favorite Book? Favorite Movie?

I’ve jumped around a lot over the years when it comes to genres, and pretty much read a little bit of everything. An overall favorite book is hard to nail down, so I’ll go with my favorite book of last year. I read the Broken World series by Kate L. Mary and loved it! Zombies and romance and sexy redneck survivalists…super-awesome!

I’m an 80’s girl, so I have to go with Say Anything for my favorite movie. Love John Cusack!

9) Will you be at any author signings in the future?

Doubtful. I plan to put out a handful of novellas in this genre, but let’s just say…I’m not out advertising it to my family. A lot of authors who write steamy or erotic novels use a different name, and I’m right there with them. I came from a very conservative background, so I think my mom would run off to church to pray for me if she found out I’d written this! I’m old enough to know that when it comes to family, it’s best to keep the drama to a minimum.

10) Which author, alive or have passed, would you want to meet and pick their brain over books?

I’d love to talk to Stephen King. I think the themes in his book are so interesting. Dark, yet he likes to throw religion in there as well. He’s also very candid about discussing his writing process and the way his writing has developed over the years. Any new author could learn a lot from someone who has worked so hard to perfect his craft, yet can still admit he has things to learn.
