Successful restaurateur Lucien Black’s blue-green eyes and unattainable attitude drive women wild. But his abandonment issues and criminal past have left him emotionally closed off. Darcy MacBride still remembers Lucien’s delicate touch when they were both wildly in love teenagers. His gorgeous eyes had soothed her hurt after she’d been dumped off at the orphanage where Lucien lived. Darcy felt his jagged edges fit perfectly into her own, and she’d planned to spend the rest of her life with him—until a mysterious man warned her away. Now, fourteen years later, she’s ready to endure the torture of Lucien’s indifference and having him as her boss…just to be near him. But when it seems that they might finally take up where they left off, a devastating secret buried in their past threatens to tear them apart again.

L.A. Fiore’s story of smoldering love recaptures the tormented romance of Beautifully Damaged.

Synopsis

Revised edition!

This edition of Beautifully Damaged has been extensively revised and includes new scenes.
Ember Walsh is a trusting soul with the quiet beauty of her late mother, who perished in a mysterious car crash when Ember was three. A little tomboyish from being raised by her father, Ember packs a punch when a stranger gets pushy with her in a bar, catching the steely blue eyes of a tall, gorgeous tattooed man—Trace Montgomery. Still damaged from her last disastrous relationship and warned off the bad boy by friends, Ember fights the smoldering heat that Trace sparks in her when he begins shadowing her like a dark angel.

Burdened by a lifetime of horror and heartbreak, amateur fighter Trace doesn’t want to want Ember. His deep self-loathing keeps him from having any meaningful relationships, but Ember is an itch he can’t scratch. The two push and pull, slowly crumbling their walls, seemingly brought together by fate, because the turmoil that haunts their pasts is interlinked in undeniable ways. But can these two fighters finally lay down their arms?

In Beautifully Damaged, L.A. Fiore delves into deep scars and lets love and forgiveness uncover redemption.

Review

SOME SPOILERS. READ WITH CAUTION!!

I have to say my taste in books has definitely taken a turn towards this new genre, “New Adult”. The mother of all books, “Fifty Shades of Grey” by E.L. James, has helped with that tremendously. I find myself drawn to the dominating/tough, troubled and dark past of the male character and the sweet and innocent female character that just can’t stay away and falls hopelessly in love with them.

Enter Trace Montgomery and Ember Walsh, the main characters of “Beautifully Damaged” by L.A. Fiore. Trace is a mysterious character that has a reputation for bedding almost all of the women in Manhattan. He fights in a boxing club to push past the demons that plague his very existence. Ember is a sweet girl, originally from Pennsylvania, living in NYC with her childhood friend, Lena. I just have to say this; Lena is a self absorbed BITCH, who gets what’s coming to her throughout this book. I’m glad she wasn’t a main character because I truly would have stopped reading at some point in the book.

Trace comes into Ember’s life (almost by accident) after she is accosted by a man in a bar. At that point, Trace is someone that Ember wants very badly, but with his demons finds it very hard to get close to. I loved this book, don’t get me wrong, but the back and forth that Trace put her through was unbearable at times. She REALLY cared for him. I felt for Ember. As soon as she got too close he pushed her away, feeling undeserving of the love that starting to come alive within her. Honestly, if I was Ember I don’t think I would have taken him back the second time around. I truly don’t know how you could not after he had a group of people dressed in black on a bridge, a place she ran almost everyday, with a sign that read, “I am sorry Ember, Please forgive me”. Call me a sucker, but from that point this book held me and did not let go.

Now, you would think all was peaches and cream after their makeup, uh no!! Did you not read what I wrote in the beginning?! This man has DEMONS and a very troubled past that’s linked to Ember. See, he has known about Ember and her family since she was a very young age after tragedy struck them. As quoted by Trace, “it’s a clusterfuck of a mess”. I would recommend this book in a heartbeat! My rating would have been a 5, but with all the back and forth their relationship took and then this stalker/rapist that had it out for Ember kind of threw me a bit. Other than that, this was a GOOD read. Enjoy!
