RATING: 5 STARS
This book put me through the ringer. The emotions, feels, anger and love I have for Morgan and Drew Kelley is just all too real. I feel this could be a couple friend of mine and they are just laying their ups and downs out there for me to understand and sympathize with. And boy! With the story Ms. Woodruff told, these two needed the love and sympathy from friends and family more now than they ever did.
"An Underestimated Christmas" Jettie Woodruff. Picks up a few years into the future with their son 5 year old son Nicholas and 3 year old son Weston (nickname Tadpole). Like all couples with kids there seems to be a separation building between Morgan and Drew on how to raise their kids. Drew feels his son Nicholas is beyond exceptional and can do no wrong. But Morgan feels there is something underlying with Nicholas' behavior that is causing him to out more than normal. When Morgan's assumption becomes reality. How will they cope to get Nicholas through the toughest hurdle of his life. Will they come together as one unit or will denial and a destructive downward spiral cause them to lose it all?
After reading the second book in the series, "Underestimated Too", you would think after such a hard battle both of these two endured. Their story and life were in Happily Ever After mode. Well you are wrong. Like any normal couple you go through hardships. I seriously thought these two were not going to make it together in the end. My favorite couple in the WORLD NOT MAKING IT TO THE END?!?! SAY IT ISN'T SO! I will love Drew and Morgan until the end of time, but damn did they break my heart into a million pieces in this book. Drew wants his family together no matter what, but when he did that he made decisions without taking his family's well being into consideration. Drew doesn't take anything from anyone. He does what he wants when he wants. Basically the bastard in the first book, but now has become a book hubby and boyfriend from his "no nonsense, I know I'm not perfect but I'm trying" mentality. You truly can't help but love him and honestly you question your morals when doing but so who cares? Can you honestly sit there and say your man is perfect? Heck no. But if he has done wrong, changed and making all efforts to correct the wrongs, right, would you judge him and give him so much berating and chastising? I would truly hope not. Because at the end of the day he is only doing this from the love he has deep down inside. There is no mistaking that.
Now this is when I have to take a deep breath where Morgan is concerned. Drew put her through hell and back and after book one. But like all other survivors of spousal abuse she came out on top. A strong woman who confronted Drew and let him have it. In this book, she seem to just given up in a way and I was disappointed. Honestly Woodruff wrote this story in such a honest and gripping way, that I can understand, somewhat, why she started a co-dependency with prescription drugs. But it gutted me when she started to take the obsession a bit deeper. It's hard when your child is diagnosis with any type of ailment or whatever, but do you think being hopped up on drugs will make that reality go away. Just won't happened. I love you Morgan but damn did you piss me off in this one!
Woodruff books are not fluff and flowers by no means. It's twisted, cruel, unforgiving and REAL. You can't fault her from writing what's in her heart. She gives you a story that takes you on a wild ride and just doesn't make you want to get off. You don't want to leave these characters behind because you wind up caring so much about them. This story was a beautifully tragic ever after. One I will never ever want to forget. Damn I'm going to miss these two.
Out of 5, I'm giving "An Underestimated Christmas" 5 stars. Beautifully done.
