BLOG TOUR, REVIEW & GIVEAWAY OF BETTER WHEN HE'S BAD BY JAY CROWNOVER

Rating : 5 Bend Me Ova and Make Me Holla Stars!!!

Warning: will most certainly BE SPOILERS IN THIS REVIEW.  Sorry there's just no other way about it so read at your own risk.

Anyone that's read my past reviews knows by now how i adore.. no bunk that more like WORSHIP Jay Crownover books! To me she's mastered the art of writing about that bad boy every good girl craves. He's the kind of tatted up guy that although may be a bit rough around the edges, with various degrees of chips on their shoulder deep down is really a good soul. They can rock sexy in your face attitude and mohawk ( Yummy Rule), Tight leather pants and smoldering stares (Jet) or menacing flames across his scalp with piecing purple eyes filled with yearning (sigh.. Nash). This time she took that guy only she didn't just give him a bad attitude, but the bad actions to go right along with it.

Bax has been locked up for five yrs. He took the fall for himself and his best friend Race when a car hijacking went wrong. He's a tough as nails guy who's known nothing but the ugly, hard knocks life has had to offer so in turn he becomes a part of that ugly and identifies with it.

"My Name is Shane Baxter, Bax to most people , and i'm a thief. Got a girl? I'll take her from you. Got a sweet ride you dropped mint on? I'll take it from you. Got expensive electronics you think are safe? I'll come and take them, because you probably didn't need them anyway. If it isn't nailed down or attached to you by unbreakable chains, there is a good chance  i can make it mine".

When he came out he had the goal of finding out if the rumors that he was betrayed by him were true and to find a way to get revenge if that was so . Also to let everyone know he wasn't the same boy who went in, he was worse. He was his own and if if the man he used to work for (Novak) still had ideas of ownership he was sadly mistaken. The one thing he didn't count on was Race having a sister and also being made responsible for her . Race waited to make waves as soon as Bax came out and now none of them were safe.  When he first sets his eyes on Dovie he sees nothing but a sad looking frumpy girl and wants nothing to do with the extra baggage. As time passes he comes to recognize a good soul who hadn't had it easy till her brother came to her rescue. Like him she came from the streets and knew how to survive in them. Her frumpy look? A disguise to hide a shapely figure since her red hair and freckles stood out like a sore thumb. He came to admire and fall for the good in her and wanted nothing to muddy her good clean soul. He decided to protect her at all costs, even if it meant from himself.

My heart broke for him a couple of times. I know in the bigger scheme of things Race was only trying to keep him safe but seriously that guy had it easy growing up. And spending 5yrs in jail when you were doing a favor for someone else had to be a hard pill to swallow. His mom not appreciating the house he bought for her was also really sad. It was as if no matter how Bax tried to demonstrate love to those he cared deeply about he couldn't win. But he did get to meet Dovie because of this so i guess there lays the silver lining.

Now you read all this and wonder "Good lord Juli how on earth did this guy get your panties all in a twist?" Easy! His fearlessness, loyalty and although a bit misplaced his love and deep commitment to take care of his mom. The fact that he could have turned Dovie away and left her to her fate.  How he falls head over heels for her when he seems to be nothing but a non caring S.O.B to the rest of the world. That was it for me! Sure he was a bit scary at times (i even questioned myself for finding him hot). I mean who knows, a couple of yrs down the line he might turn into a meth head and beat her to a bloody pulp. (although I don't think so because he sees her as his light) Hey anythings possible! Ms. Crownover's just that good a writer, where you find yourself getting lady wood over the most infuriating, or in this case criminal a-hole and not wanna really question it. This book was definitely a bit darker than her usual, but look at it this way: some of the most delicious and greatest pleasures happen in the dark ;)

Synopsis:

There’s a difference between a bad boy and a boy who’s bad . . . meet Shane Baxter.
Sexy, dark, and dangerous, Bax isn’t just from the wrong side of the tracks, he is the wrong side of the tracks. A criminal, a thug, and a brawler, he’s the master of bad choices, until one such choice landed him in prison for five years. Now Bax is out and looking for answers, and he doesn’t care what he has to do or who he has to hurt to get them. But there’s a new player in the game, and she’s much too innocent, much too soft…and standing directly in his way.

Dovie Pryce knows all about living a hard life and the tough choices that come with it. She’s always tried to be good, tried to help others, and tried not to let the darkness pull her down. But the streets are fighting back, things have gone from bad to worse, and the only person who can help her is the scariest, sexiest, most complicated ex-con The Point has ever produced.

Bax terrifies her, awakening feelings she never thought she’d have for a guy like him. But it doesn’t take Dovie long to realize . . . some boys are just better when they’re bad.
